Cupcakes and mug rugs….a swap story

Last week Fiona from PatchworkDelights put forward the idea of doing a swap. One of my cupcakes for a mug rug! I jumped at the chance (I had my eye on the beauties for a while)!! I, off course, wanted a pink one and Fi was so amazingly wonderful and made one up for me.

It arrived a little while ago and I am SO SO super delighted with it, it;s not only beautiful but so well made.

Fi also received her cupcake and was delighted with it!

Textiles

This year I attended a textile course at the Crawford College. It was a great course where I got to develop my textile skills including different ways of felt making, printmaking, silk paper as well as paper making. We had an exhibition at the end of the 24 weeks where I, of course completely forgot to take photos, so today whilst taking the pieces down I took a few photos of my sculptures (on my phone so they’re not the best, I’ll have a few more soon). These pieces were made of soy bean fibre and flax with metal leaf.

I’m really enjoying designing some new items and, of course, continuing to make the old favourites! I recently made two customs orders for a fantastically awesome girl in Australia, an ice cream scarf and a strawberry shortcake scarf and I really had such fun working with her to get them perfect!

Names, games and hysterics

It’s been such a long time I know, I get distracted with crocheting and sewing and very often that's all I have to talk about…I’m a bit of a bore!

So I wanted to post a few photos of new items still in progress (waiting for a sewing machine so I can finish the lining and things!) and hopefully I’ll have a shop update before too long

Also, I’m opening a new Etsy shop where I’ll be selling some fabric rose items,handbags, headbands and eventually clothes, all handmade by me. This new shop will have a more elegant and vintage style appeal, perfect for weddings and special occasions and of course for any elegant ladies! So I’m now in the process of coming up with a name that is special and appropriate, hence the hysterics. I have so many words that epitomise the style but none of them sound quite right. I’ll let you know when I have one and when the shop will open.

And so tonight I plan to take it easy, not think about work, and play a lot of Cranium and Soul Calibur.

I've had so much fun creating some new pieces for the shop. I’ve taken a different direction and I’m really enjoying the finished items. Ive had so much fun making my new designs I hope you like them too! I'm planning on trying out more clothes, skirts, dresses and the like! In fabric and crochet. I've so many ideas racing around my head at the moment I'm finding it hard to even get them down on paper. Bits and Pieces...

I've had such a busy two weeks, first bad with the pooch having surgery(she thought eating a peach stone was a good idea...), the second was great. I've had far more fun than I expected and have finished some pieces I'm very happy with. I decided on tuesday that when I came home wednesday I was going to take three days off and have a dvd marathon but I keep getting ideas and the need to make things so my break has been postponed... I hope I'll get 'round to it I'm missing out on Grave of the Fireflies and Up!

Here's some of my work soon to be on etsy, also I'll be in the craft fair in the Unitarian Church on Princes st in Cork on the 24th of this month so come check it out! There'll be some great stalls and atmosphere!

A Little Bit of Terror Inducing Excitement

I am walking on clouds at the minute. After an awful day of cleaning up dog vomit, visits to the vet and the news that my wee pet may need an operation, I got a phone call…. Cant say details just yet but I'm so excited and terrified it'll fall through. But I think Ill let myself believe its true for the rest of the day at least….

New beginnings….

God Im so bad at keeping up with this blog but its not all my fault I swear. Apparently the wifi thingy on my laptop is temper mental and will only work when my Dad tinkers with it!

My etsy shop is starting to take shape now, I just need to photograph all my bits (phew thats gonna take a while), come up with and design a logo and header and hopefully Ill be good to go.

Oh yawn I have to go to sleep, the combination of digging (up the garden for mum), crochet and a terrible day has made me long for my bed!

Snow, Sleepiness and all things in between

Finally I have returned, there's only so much a brain can store without overflowing! I've now returned to working my usual hours with the crochet and did have one or two moments when I just wanted to give up and curl up in bed with a Terry's chocolate orange and Geoffrey Rush..(unfortunately on screen and not in my bed)..but I persevered with the evil cupcake scarf and am now almost complete, just waiting on sprinkles! I suppose "evil" is a bit harsh but I seriously thought it would never happen. Ive tried out so many variations and couldn't find the perfect wool until a lone yellow colour caught my eye in the wool shop and beckoned me with its fantastic velvety softness....Now I just have a sprinkle problem ...what to use...?

Also nearing the end of my other experimental projects! I'm a divil when it comes to new things, I start at least five at the same time and manage to hit problems about the same time too. So now I'm trying to source chain for a handbag with is proving difficult(I'm a tad fussy) I found two, ones too big and one is too small...sigh. If anyone knows any website or shop where I could find a selection of non fused chain I would be ecstatic if you emailed me!

Goodness I've barely baked this new year which is unlike me but I blame the weather causing much laziness, but have an order for some butterfly cakes with butter cream filling so Ill post a photo soon too tantalise the taste buds and make you all jealous (me also...I cant eat them...damn wheat allergies!) though speaking of which I believe I might be ever closer to concocting a recipe for some wheat-free treats so stay tunes!

And on that positive note I must sigh off and get some beauty sleep!

Brain…why must you run away with yourself?

Finally I have returned to the crochet world after an extended Christmas break although diversions have not made it easy. Neither has the lack of brightly coloured wool. I have however begun an attempt at a shawl scarf thing in shell crochet which is quite pretty although had to start off with 202 stitches. This instils terror in my heart, I'm used to 25 stitches at most…

Ooh I have finally found super soft and super chunky wool so watch this space for cupcake brooches and the like!

Over Christmas I became rather distracted with dressmaking… well I say dressmaking I actually mean messing around with the sewing machine. So I attempted sewing a simple clutch bag and it worked out well so I tried another and another and now I am completely obsessed. So I found this amazing fabric on eBay so hopefully Ill be adding bags and purses to my collection.

I am also attempting the far more challenging ruffled, gathered, lace-y, tiered skirt pattern I found somewhere. Its hideously complicated but I'm well excited to see how it'll turn out. I have since discovered that I am a lace-y, ruffle kind of gal, oh and ribbons. My mind is actually whirling so much I cant even think but all Ill say is watch this space for photos and much more lace filled adventures!

Sigh….failure

So my first attempt at making Turkish delight did not go to plan…Instead of being lovely and squidgy it was in fact rock hard, it did taste nice though. However the majority ended up in the bin, people like their teeth apparently.

So now plans have to change for the fair. No more Turkish delight (mmm rose water…) chocolate truffles will have to do.

On a lighter note my Devils food cake tissue box cover is going well though I cant decide which colour whipped cream swirls to do, cream or chocolate ah or both!! and chocolate sprinkles! I'm excited!

Right back to work now, must make up for the two wasted Turkish delight hours!

My “day off”

So not so much of a day off as it was a day of cleaning one room…but on the up side the sitting room was lovely and tidy for a few hours… I did get a pair of mittens done though, had to change the colour due to my dwindling wool supplies.

Also forgot to finish my dress so tomorrow it is! Have an pile to do tomorrow, grapefruit rounds to crochet, labels to attach, label programs to try and figure out before they break my computer, oh lord Im tired of thinking!

To bed now, oh sleep I miss you…

The Whipped Cream Battle Chronicles…

Oh whipped cream is not an easy think to replicate in wool, spent almost the whole day fighting with the bloody thing to give in and do as it was told, eventually it behaved, somewhat, hoping that it is even slightly recognisable as whipped cream..

or strange white peanuts…right now going to blame it on the awful photo.

So I have decided, after my terrifyingly late night last night and early morning, that I am going to take tomorrow off (actually just the half day…guilts phew) and do some much needed tidying. My work tends to expand and take over the entire house. And of course, places need tidying for Christmas decorations…excitement! Though I'm so behind in my shopping which is so completely unlike me, usually I have it done in September…Im a bit of a crazy! I had such a good idea for a present for my sister but I don't have the time to do it do am distraught!! Hopefully Ill remember to do it for her birthday!

Things are looking good for the 18th, Im starting to feel slightly better about quantity, just need to make sure everything's finished properly, all ends sewn in and the like. Which reminds me, I've my last dressmaking class on Monday, I'm going to miss my almost finished dress- will post photo soon! There’s another thing I must do tomorrow, suddenly not really looking like a day off…

So so tired…

Have just finished a pair of strawberry fingerless mittens at half two am and am zonked. Though it was a wee challenge I set for myself. And thanks to the fantastic helping hands of a certain friend, almost all the labels have been attached to the keyrings!

So here’s just a tiny example of some of the keyrings I will be selling at a craft fair in Cork city. Hoping and praying things go down well and people like my bits and bobs! My blood sweat and tears have gone into them so I'm amazed they didn't turn out creepy and gross! But have started to ramble again so to bed and sleep with me…..oh and I have so many ideas of little handbags and purses so watch this space for some terribly childish paint shop drawings!

Oh time, time, why do you hate me....

So Still trying to get used to this blog thing and a new keyboard is not helping... and time, let us not forget that dreaded clock ticking ominously in the corner (the ticking is of course not really there but I thought it created a nice creepy atmosphere).

The work is going well, slow but I think I may be getting there, my goal is to have roughly 200 keyrings, which means about forty more to go... Thats the one thing I hate- not knowing whats required and Im all about the motto "be prepared" sometimes I may take this too far...

So I know I promised photos etc but these will have to wait until the arrival of my laptop and all the transferring action that will be taking place!

Again not a very interesting or informative post but I promise I will get better when time and me kiss and make up!

A tasty treat

So here it begins, my quest to entice people to sample my delicious crocheted treats,(and real treats of course). Despite the concerns of many people I am adamant to pursue my dream of someday owning a vintage tea shop with a lot more than cake and tea on the menu.
